Welcome to the official homepage of the tourist agency Jeetze-Ohr-Droemling e.V.! On the following pages we invite you to get specific and very interesting Information about the "Droemling"- a former swamp and nature reserve in the middle of Germany. When the ice age appeared a huge sliding wall of ice and dirt took everything with it that came across its way: stones and different kinds of soil. All of its weight and mass formed our landscape as we know it today.
Different layers of clay, sands and pea gravel remained on top and made the ground watertight. Within decades a swamp formed from this mixture which over a long period of time was very dangerous for people. Many got lost or died in the swamps. The areagot name "The land of a thousand ditches".
In 18th century Friedrich II insisted on drainage and after this was accomplished, living in this area became possible. Still the main parts of this area belong to a nature reserve , the "Droemling". It did not lose its pure green appearence nor its large variety of rare animal species. Anyone in need of rest or relaxation from our hectic everyday lives should consider a stay here! Our tourist agency with its own "Droemling" exhibition is located in an old mansion built in 1862. We are happy to make plans and and we will respond to all requests you may have!
There are many possibilities to enjoy pure nature and a variety of outdoor activities: bike tours, horseback riding, carriage tours, picnics, equestrian farmyards, an organic farm, public swimmingpools, nature trails and history trails provide an adventurous, fun-filled time for the whole family! Small and idyllic villages invite you to see timber houses and typical churches and there are events, festivals and traditional activities the whole year round.
